Very Late 2020 Virtual Cottenham 7k Fun Run: May 1st - 3rd Only 8 Days to Go!
When the decision to postpone the Cottenham Fun Run was taken at the start of the pandemic it was with high hopes that the event would still go ahead during 2020, albeit later in the year than the traditional early May bank holiday slot. Fast forward the best part of a year and the 2020 Fun Run medals still sit in a box awaiting necks to adorn.
Virtual events have now become common place. The virtual London Marathon, for example, being awarded a Guinness World Record for the most participants to run a remote marathon in 24 hours. Not to be left out, an altogether smaller and just for fun, virtual Fun Run was arranged to give the Cottenham running community the chance to take on the established 7k Cottenham route.
To support and record an individual’s efforts, an open to all Cottenham Runners group was set up on Strava. The club has evolved into a sociable network for people of all abilities and currently boasts 87 members. The average weekly running mileage of the club is well in excess of 1,200 with the leading runners regularly recording 50+ miles per week.
Restrictions will still remain in place during this year’s May bank holiday and although there is cautious optimism that the 2021 Fun Run may take place this summer, there is still the unanswered question of the 2020 race and what to do with the big box of engraved medals.
So we are very pleased to announce the Very late 2020 Virtual Cottenham 7K Fun Run over the weekend of the Early May Bank Holiday (1 – 3 May). For a small entry fee, participants can secure a medal by running any 7k route and submitting their best time for inclusion on the Leaderboard. All ages and abilities are welcome and additional medals are up for grabs for category winners.
