One of the most scenic running events in the UK, the route takes in a working Fish Quay, the River Tyne, Tynemouth Priory and Castle, and a long stretch of coastline before finishing at St. Mary's Lighthouse in Whitley Bay.

The event is organised by North Tyneside Council and is supported by Start Fitness.

2025's race is later in the year to allow for the completion of the seafront cycleway. 

2024's winning times were 32m 18s (male) and 36m 40s (female). The overall course record stands at 30m 26s.

The event uses chip timing and participants will receive their result by text message. Video clips will also be available.

Runners will receive a goody bag with race t-shirt at the finish line.
