2 Venue: The start, lunch break and finish will all be in the grounds of the Grampian Transport Museum, Alford, Aberdeenshire. AB33 8AE.  Please use the east gate entrance on Stewart Road but be aware of the train tracks when entering the venue. Follow the paved road past the grandstand to find the sign on area.

3 Eligibility: Riders must hold a current Category A or A2 motorcycle licence and an SACU or ACU Trials licence or obtain a One Event Licence (OEL) with their entry. All bikes and riders must be road legal including road tax, road insurance and MOT. It is the sole responsibility of the entrant to make sure that they comply with this rule. At the organisers discretion bikes with loud exhausts may be subject to a noise test. Any bike found to be making more than 102db will not be allowed to take part.

4 Route: The route will use public highways and unsurfaced roads including a number of off-road sections during which the riders will be marked on performance. A southern loop in the morning will be approximately 80 miles while the afternoon’s northern loop will be approximately 60 miles in length. The half hour lunch break is compulsory. Riders are responsible for carrying enough fuel to complete the course. A refuelling area will be supplied during the lunch break. Please refuel only in this area.

5 Navigation The route is only e-mailed to the riders in the week preceding the event in the form of a PDF or GPX file. This file can be used with the Rally Book Reader App, loaded into a GPS device or printed in a format that can be used with a motorised or manual roadbook holder. We recommend that you fit a mobile phone holder or road book holder to your bike.

It is the riders responsibility to follow the route provided. There will be NO on-road marking, the onus is on the rider to navigate the route using the roadbook. Off-Road sections will be identifiable to make sure that a rider doesn’t miss any. A 50 mark penalty will be added for each missed off-road section. Orange flags will be used to mark the trail in all off-road sections.

In addition, each rider will be given a coloured punchcard at the start of the day. Marked on the roadbook are various points where punches can be found. Riders are required to punch a hole in the number that matches the number on the punch station. Failure to punch a location will result in a 20 mark penalty per missing hole.

It is our plan to make some short instructional videos on how to use the Rally Roadbook Reader App on both Android and Apple devices. These will be posted to our Facebook page.

6 Machines: The course and route will be suitable for all types of road legal dual sport bikes. N.B. All bikes must be fitted with road legal tyres. Any bike fitted with Enduro or Motocross tyres will not be allowed to start. Please consult our list of allowed tyres. If in doubt about the tyres fitted to your bike e-mail us for advice. Riders must wear a road legal crash helmet, boots and gloves. (Off Road boots are recommended). Rider numbers will be supplied at sign on. These must be affixed to the front of your clothing or motorcycle so that the observers can easily read your number.

7 Machine Classes and Awards Bikes will be split into the following classes, if you have any doubt as to which class your machine falls into please ask us d2d@bamcc.co.uk

8 Entries: Only online entries will be accepted and can be made via this link, www.theentrypoint.co.uk Entry Fee is £80. We expect the entry limit to be 150 riders but this is subject to FLS approval. Any refund of entry fees paid will be made solely at the discretion of the organisers. The organisers reserve the right to retain a part of the entry fee to cover admin and bank charges. Your entry fee does not include the cost of an SACU One Event Licence (+£10), lunch at the Museum (+£5) or Supplementary rider insurance costs (+£TBA). Entries will close when we reach our entry limit number or on the 25th of July 2025. Any change of the machine that has been entered must be notified to the organisers as soon as possible.

9 Supplementary Insurance As most motorcycle road based insurance policies do not cover competitive events, the organisers will supply at cost supplementary insurance that will provide cover whilst riding on the public road during a competitive event. We will notify riders as soon as we have a firm quote for the cost from our insurance brokers.

10 On the Day: All riders must sign on at the organisers tent and get their bikes through scrutineering half an hour before their designated start time.  Start times will be e-mailed to the riders as well as being published on the club website www.bamcc.co.uk and also our Facebook pages.

11 Helmet Cameras and Body Worn Cameras Are simply not allowed under SACU rules. Any rider using such devices will be asked to remove them before they are allowed to start the event. Bike mounted cameras are allowed but will be checked for safety by our machine examiners

12 Start: Riders will start in groups of three at 90 second intervals. First three riders away at 09:00. There is space on the entry form to tell us if you want to ride around with your friends. The afternoon loop will also have a start time. Failing to start on either of your allotted times will incur a 50 mark penalty and if the backmarkers have or are about to close the loop you will be asked to retire from the event.

14 Sensitive Areas: There will be large pink coloured signs at certain sensitive areas advising the riders to slow down or keep noise to a minimum. Failure to comply with these notices will result in exclusion from the trial and may well jeopardise the future of the event. The speed limit in FLS forests is 15mph do not exceed this limit which will be well signposted.

15 Time: There will be a time allowance for the Northern Loop and the Southern Loop. The exact time will be given in the Final Instructions before the event. The route will be closed by backmarkers who leave 30 minutes after the last rider. Any rider overtaken by the backmarkers will be asked to retire.

16 Breakdowns If you breakdown on the route and the backmarkers catch you up, you have a maximum of 15 minutes to re-start. Or if you continually have difficulty on the course and are holding up the backmarkers you will be asked to retire. The backmarkers will communicate your situation and position to the base at the museum where steps will be taken to recover you.

17 Sign Off: All riders must sign off whether they finish the trial or not. This ensures that we don’t have the emergency services out looking for you. Just come to the organisers tent and sign in the box on our sheet. Once you have signed off you will be given a voucher for a burger and a drink.

18 Final Instructions: Any final instructions, rider numbers, start times etc. will be e-mailed to you in the week before the event. Please make sure we have your current e-mail address and that our communication is not going into your junk mail folder.

19 Rider Scoring: In accordance with SACU Standing Regulations TSR 22 B – No Stop Allowed. All off-road test / sections must be ridden in the specified order. For this year we will run two routes in each off road section known as A and B. Route A will be the harder of the two routes and will be suitable for competition bikes and experienced off road riders. Route B will be a bit easier and will be suitable for dual sport bikes and novice off road riders. All riders will have the option to pick the route of their choice but in order to be eligible for an award a rider must ride all of the off road sections on the same route.

The different types of test and their scoring systems will be explained in detail before the actual event. Anyone who has ridden trials will be familiar with the scoring systems.  We will be using some or all of the following test types,

  • Trials: Touching the ground with your foot once counts as a mark, touch twice loses two marks, touch three times or more loses three marks, coming to a stop or missing a marker loses five marks
  • Hill Start: Touching a foot to the ground whilst moving off counts as five marks
  • Regularity Test: Completing a marked course in a standard time. Lose marks for being under or over the standard time.
  • Timed Test: Riders will be timed between two points

The rider with the lowest number of observed marks and penalty points at the end of the day will be the winner. In the event of a tie the fastest time from the special test will determine the winner. There are five different classes to compensate for the performance of the bikes being used.

20 Accommodation Although D2D is just a one day event we appreciate that people can travel large distances to compete. For campers and motorhomes we recommend the nearby Haughton Park which has a variety of options to suit all needs. There are a number of small hotels and B&B’s in Alford but no website lists them all so you’ll need to Google. The nearest large hotels are 19 miles away in Westhill, Aberdeenshire where you will find a Premier Inn and a Holiday Inn.

21 Toilet Facilities Will be available at the Collections Centre of the museum and will be open when you arrive in the morning. Hand washing facilities are also available.

22 Catering Will be available all day starting with breakfast rolls (which must be paid for). An optional soup and sandwich lunch deal is available this year just tick the box on the entry form. A meal ticket will be provided to all riders and officials when they sign off and this is included in your entry fee.
